About Cadex Electronics

In 1980, Isidor Buchmann, founder and president of Cadex Electronics, recognized that the full potential of Nickel-cadmium batteries was not being realized. Cadex (short for CADmium EXerciser) was born when Isidor developed a battery analyzer to exercise and rejuvenate these batteries.

Over the next two decades, Cadex developed a series of battery analyzers to service rechargeable batteries. The proprietary recondition feature, which Isidor developed, proved to be so effective in restoring weak batteries that the analyzers soon became a workhorse, servicing batteries for radio communications, medical, portable computing, aviation and defense applications.

In 1991, Cadex introduced the first user-programmable battery analyzer. Priced slightly higher that the competition, the Cadex C4000 offered more accurate test results, enabled higher battery throughput, was more effective in restoring weak packs and adapted itself better in servicing new battery systems than other units then available.

In 1992, Cadex landed a contract to built advanced fast-chargers and battery reconditioners for a US defense project. During the five-year program, Racal Communications, the defense supplier, awarded Cadex with several awards for outstanding performance. In 1996, an agreement was reached with Medtronics Physio-Control to design and supply an intelligent battery charger / conditioner for heart defibrillators. In the same year, Cadex received the British Columbia Export Award for outstanding achievements in export. By then, the company had attained international market recognition with a customer base in over 100 countries.
With the number of battery models expanding, customers asked for an easier interface between battery and analyzer. In 1995, Cadex introduced the C7000 featuring SnapLock™ adapters. This battery analyzer became the company's flagship and a new global standard was established to which competitive products were compared.

In 1998, Cadex engaged in a partnership with Motorola to manufacture battery analyzers for distribution through Motorola's global network. In the same year, Isidor was finalist in the Entrepreneur of the Year program.

Throughout Cadex's history, the emphasis has been on providing the best customer service possible. The Cadex staff were trained to become battery experts. Isidor's articles on battery technology gained recognition by appearing in leading trade magazines throughout the world. In 1997, the book Batteries in a Portable World - A Handbook on Rechargeable Batteries for Non-engineers was published. New information was added and the second edition appeared in 2001. In its 300 pages, the reader learns which battery chemistry to choose and how to restore and prolong battery life. The contents of the book and the articles have been published on www.buchmann.ca, an information website for battery users.

In 2000, Cadex developed the Universal Conditioning Chargers (UCC), utilizing reverse-pulse charging. A conditioning button allows discharge on demand. Intelligent adapters enable service of nickel and lithium-based batteries on the same charger. In 2001, Revivant Corporation commissioned Cadex to build specialty chargers and battery packs for emergency medical devices. Cadex received an order to supply single and five-bay chargers for HP Compaq Computers.

Cadex reached a new milestone in 2001with the introduction of QuickTest™. This patent-pending technology measures the state-of-health of a battery in three minutes by gathering data from six variables and combining them to predict an accurate percentage reading. QuickTest™ was added to the new C7200 and C7400 battery analyzers platform.

Cadex is currently developing a rapid-tester also for larger batteries. The patent-pending technology is based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. A handheld tester for automotive batteries will be completed by 2003 and a unit for stationary batteries will follow.
Cadex is ISO9001 certified and operates from its custom-built headquarters on the banks of the Fraser River in a suburb of Vancouver, Canada. The interior of the building is designed with employee comfort in mind. Balconies overlook the scenic river and a nature path is enjoyed by staff, joggers and cyclists alike.

Batteries have become the lifeblood of society and our dependence on portable energy is growing daily. Cadex has realized the importance of battery care and is offering equipment to test, maintain, restore and charge this delicate energy source. Our products are built with one goal in mind - to make batteries run longer.
